Overview
Our Afghan Silk Road Discovery Tour is a 7-day journey that connects some of the most unique places in the country. We begin in Kabul, where you’ll get a feel for daily life in the capital from busy markets to historic spots that locals are proud of. Then we travel to Bamiyan, a place known for its open valleys, the remains of the giant Buddhas, and the deep blue lakes of Band-e Amir. From there, the road takes us to Samangan, where you’ll see Takht-e Rostam and spend time in quiet gardens that still carry the memory of Afghanistan’s past. The final part of the trip takes us to Mazar-i-Sharif and the old city of Balkh, once an important stop on the Silk Road. Here you’ll visit the famous Blue Mosque and explore a city that has welcomed travelers for centuries. Itinerary
Stop: Kabul
Upon arrival at Kabul International Airport, our local team will warmly welcome you and transfer you to the hotel. After a short rest and orientation, we take a gentle introduction walk in Kabul. Depending on your arrival time, we’ll visit the Bird Market — a traditional bazaar where colorful birds, artisans, and small workshops capture the spirit of Afghan daily life. In the evening, share a welcome dinner with the group. Overnight at Khayber Hotel (4★ standard).
Stop: Bamyan
After breakfast, we set off on a scenic drive to Bamiyan, passing through stunning valleys and mountain landscapes. In Bamiyan, we’ll explore the ancient city of Shahr-e Gholghola and the remains of the Buddhas of Bamiyan, once towering symbols of this Silk Road hub. The day ends with a peaceful evening in the quiet valleys of Bamiyan. Overnight at Gholghola Hotel Bamiyan (3★ standard).
Stop: Samangan
In the morning, we visit Band-e-Amir, Afghanistan’s first national park, where six sapphire-blue lakes are framed by dramatic cliffs. After lunch by the lake, we begin our drive toward Samangan. Arriving in the evening, you’ll check into the hotel and rest after a rewarding day of travel and exploration. Overnight at Samangan Guesthouse (local standard).
Stop: Samangan
Today is dedicated to discovering the hidden gems of Samangan. We’ll explore Takht-e Rostam, a rare Buddhist stupa carved entirely out of rock. Later, enjoy a stroll through Aibak town and the historic Bagh-e Jahan Nama (Garden of the World’s View), once a royal retreat. This day combines history, culture, and the relaxed rhythm of Afghan provincial life. Overnight at Samangan Guesthouse (local standard).
Stop: Balkh
After breakfast, we continue our journey north to Balkh, often referred to as the (Mother of Cities). Here you’ll visit the Mausoleum of Rabia Balkhi, one of Afghanistan’s most celebrated poets, and the impressive 9-domed mosque. In the afternoon, we return to Mazar-i-Sharif to visit the iconic Blue Mosque, a jewel of Afghan Islamic architecture. Evening at leisure to enjoy the atmosphere of the city. Overnight at Baron Hotel Mazar (4★ standard).
Stop: Kabul
We drive back to Kabul, a long but scenic journey that brings us full circle on the Silk Road. On arrival, if time permits, we’ll visit the Darul Aman Palace — once a royal palace and now beautifully restored. Evening at leisure for a farewell dinner. Overnight at Khayber Hotel (4★ standard).
Stop: Kabul International Airport
On your final morning, depending on your flight schedule, we’ll take a short walk through the antique street markets, a perfect place to buy authentic handmade souvenirs. Later, our team will transfer you to Kabul International Airport for your onward journey. End of the trip.
